Skyliner Jazz big band

Over the many years since its founding by Jochen Arp, the University’s Big Band has celebrated numerous successes: not only at events such as the Alstervergnügen or Kieler Woche did the Skyliners showcase their talent, but they were also twice awarded 1st prize at the Pinneberg Jazz Festival. The ensemble’s repertoire includes both beloved big band classics by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Peter Herbolzheimer as well as arrangements by young local colleagues. Many musicians well-regarded in the North German jazz scene have been, or still are, members of this formation.

From 1987 to 2023, the Skyliners were led by renowned saxophonist Andreas Böther. Since the winter semester of 2023/24, the university’s big band has been under the direction of trumpeter, composer, and arranger Michel Schroeder: www.michel-schroeder.com
